JAMMU, May 26: The Silambam martial arts tournament for girls, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, started here today.
The championship was inaugurated by the Chairman of J&K Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (JKPYC), Uday. During the inauguration of the tournament, he urged the government to provide adequate sports facilities in every nook and cranny of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Martial Arts Tournament of Jammu Silambam was organized in the North Assembly Segment of Jammu by the Department of Youth Services and Sports of Jammu as per the annual calendar of activities published by the Director General of Youth Services and Sports Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and under the overall supervision of DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj.
A lot of enthusiasm was seen among the children belonging to different private and public schools who came to participate in the tournament.
Chib said it is absolutely necessary to promote sports activities not only for a healthy population, but more than that to divert young people from the path of drug-related activities. “Youngsters who excel in sports can also embrace it as a lucrative career,” Uday said.
