On the surface, no one would confuse Facebook founder and Big Tech kingpin Mark Zuckerberg with having anything to do with the UFC or mixed martial arts. Appearances aren’t always what they seem, however, and Zuckerberg actually seems like a half-decent fighter.
Ahead of Khai Wu’s appearance in Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat 5, Mark Zuckerberg shared a video of him and Wu training together, which showed him holding his own against “The Shadow”. Zuckerberg’s practice match earned the Meta Platforms CEO props from several fighters, with Conor McGregor, Alexander Volkanovski and Aljamain Sterling among those commenting on an Instagram post.
In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Zuckerberg shared that he started getting into mixed martial arts during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now training with Dave Camarillo of Gorilla Jiu Jitsu. Zuckerberg shared that the “primal” nature of MMA and its intensity appeal to him, and he has also successfully recruited a number of friends to begin training in mixed martial arts as well.
“From the very first session I did, about five minutes later, I was like, ‘Where has this been my whole life?'” Zuckerberg said. “Okay, my mom made me do three varsity sports and my life took a turn for the worse when I chose to fencing competitively instead of wrestling in high school or something.”
Rogan was among those who commented on Zuckerberg’s video.
“This is awesome! I’m so glad to see this,” he wrote. “The formation looks solid too!”
