Who has martial arts training and who would win?

Billionaire and Tesla founder Elon Musk challenged Russian President Vladimir Putin to single combat, sparking interest in their respective martial arts skills.

Musk’s challenge came after YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul shared a fake boxing poster of himself and the Russian president last week.

Elon Musk challenges Putin

In a series of Twitter posts shared Monday, March 14, entrepreneur Elon Musk challenged Vladimir Putin to single combat in a bid to end the conflict in Ukraine.

“I hereby challenge Vladimir Putin to single combat,” the Tesla founder tweeted. “The stakes are Ukraine.”

In a follow-up tweet, Musk wrote in Russian: “Are you okay with this fight?” He tagged the official Kremlin Twitter account in the post.

As reported by The Independent, one user suggested that Putin would win the fight to which Musk replied, in a since-deleted post: “If Putin could so easily humiliate the West, he would accept the challenge. But he won’t.

Elon Musk and Putin: Who trained in martial arts?

Musk and Putin both trained in martial arts. According to previous reports, Musk trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Palo Alto, Calif., and also has experience in kyokushin karate, taekwondo and judo.

Meanwhile, the Russian president is a black belt in judo and co-wrote the book Judo: History, Theory, Practice.

However, the International Judo Federation and the European Judo Federation confirmed that they were suspending Putin from his duties as honorary president and ambassador after Russia invaded Ukraine.

World Taekwondo announced: “World Taekwondo has decided to revoke the honorary ninth dan black belt conferred on Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013.”

Who would win in a fight?

If that fight ever takes place, however unlikely, Putin is specifically trained in judo and has technical skills.

Single combat is too broad a term, so it depends on the rules and allowed techniques.

But, if we’re talking about a UFC style matchup, Musk would have the edge thanks to his weight and height. He is 188cm (6ft 2in) tall and reportedly weighs over 80kg.

By comparison, Putin’s height is said to be 5ft 5in (168cm), while his weight is said to be around 70kg.

Putin and Musk have a 19-year age difference, with the contractor being the younger fighter, which could also affect the outcome.
