World-class Iman honored with gold bench in Melton

Iman Barlow, nicknamed “Pretty Killer”, has won martial arts titles in the UK and overseas since she was a child.

She has just returned from the United States after becoming the first Muay Thai fighter from these shores to win a gold medal at the World Games.

Iman had qualified for the event in Bangkok when she became the first British competitor to win the kickboxing world championships and claim the top elite fighter trophy.

Melton Borough Council recognized these achievements by unveiling the special Market Place Bench, which has been painted gold with a commemorative plaque.

Iman was congratulated at the launch by Mayor of Melton, Councilor Alan Hewson, his colleague, Councilor Robert Bindloss.

She started kickboxing at a young age, winning the British and European IKF Junior titles at just nine years old.

His skills were honed through training at Assassins Gym, Melton, where his father, Mark, is head instructor.

The world-class 29-year-old will open the council’s ‘Let’s Get Moving Melton’ day on Sunday August 21, with a Q&A on the day so she can answer any questions and share his stories and experiences with local residents. and visitors.

Health and Fitness Day goals will allow people to try free or subsidized activities and engage with a number of local instructors, coaches, sports clubs and community groups within of the borough.

Councilor Malise Graham, Portfolio Holder for People and Communities, said, “We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of Iman Barlow.

“She has had many remarkable accomplishments over the years and is an inspiration to the community and a new generation of sports stars.

“I hope this will encourage people to be more active.”

The special Let’s Get Moving Melton event will take place from 10 a.m. at the town’s Play Close park.
